The Blank Page

The most daunting image to me is  the blank page.  It is a fear that comes from not knowing how to start. How does one start anything new? It’s the old joke about how do you eat an elephant? (Not that I would want to) but it goes to serve as a perfect illustration as to how the task just seems too large.

It is obvious that the blank page has been a problem for sometime.  I started to write 40 years ago but let go of that idea because I was afraid of the blank page.  I thought I would have nothing to say that anyone would want to read so I looked for other professions to consume my time. After a series of incidents, and professions, I have come back to face the blank page.

I have a story coming out in a new Chicken Soup for the Soul book this week.  The book is “The Best Advice I Ever Heard: 101 Stories of Epiphanies and Wise Words. My story is “Put On Your Oxygen Mask First”.  Being proud of this story, and knowing it is a message I want to share with others, I thought I better update my website and blog.

So my first step to accessing it I thought would be easy.  Just look it up on the internet.  Deborah Henderson Roberts wasn’t listed anywhere.  I could not find my domain, or my name despite several search attempts. My first thought was am I alive?  Well I know the answer to that, so I started looking for the name of the blog in my papers.  I knew I had started up a website not that long ago. It turns out it was about five years ago.  It didn’t seem that long. Rummaging through my less than effective paper filling system, I eventually found the website was and password information.  Upon entering my website, I found my blog to be nothing but the blank page staring me in the face.  So I am happy to say that I have rectified that problem. This is my first step in blogging and starting my website. These are the words that I have put upon my blank page. I share with you now this my first post.  Now I realize I have many other equally daunting tasks in order to make my presence known on the web and in the world, but I will take it one blank page at a time.

As you go through the week and the tasks you have been putting off, I wish you success in filling your blank page with the words that only you can write.
